schrodingersghost: (Who Me?)
[personal profile] schrodingersghost
Every time I think that my life couldn't possibly suck any more, it suddenly gets worse. Like it isn't enough to be stranded in some kind of creepy abandoned city. No, NOW we have to worry about starving and freezing. And monsters.

Is there any good news here? Ever?

I HAVE A RECORD PLAYER!

Yeah, I was kinda surprised too that no one looted all the cool stuff whenever this place went to hell! Their loss, now I've got a record player and an electric oven! D'ya know how expensive those things are?!

Wait, places around here still have record players? How far out of date is this place?

Considering I'm pretty sure record players qualify as antiques? I'm guessing big money.

Hey, it's not out of date! Some of the stuff here I haven't seen before, and I'm the most advanced country in the world! First one to make it to the moon--I'd like to see all those old empires and their bragging about colonies beat that.

No, I meant electric ovens. That shit'll cost ya.

The moon? You mean the Apollo 11 mission?

...And what do you mean country?

I have no idea about that. But considering how many my parents have blown up? They can't be too expensive.

Sure do! Just went this summer! Man was that cool.

Like a country. You know, something that's made of land and culture and people and history? I'm the coolest one.

They're like a thousand bucks!

Are you joking? That was over forty years ago!

I know what a country is. But I'm not seeing the connection here.

Funny, I thought they were closer to $200.

You're from the future too?! Damn it, I haven't even gotten to 1970 yet and I've been here a year!

I'm a country! Actually, the best. You must've heard of me; I've only won both World Wars and started a huge revolutionary movement in the 18th century and saved Germany after Russia and East blocked him off. In case you're too stupid to guess, I'm the United States of America!

Nah, definitely way more expensive. That's why I've only been using my regular gas oven.

Great. Now its time travel too? It was 2002, last I heard.

...Yeah, I've heard of you. Er, it. I've only lived in the US my entire life.

No one ever told me you were a person. Are you sure you're not making this up?

Yeah, time's all wacky here. Back home, it's 1969, nearing 1970. Canada and England are the same for me, but Denmark's stuck back in World War II which sucks for him, and Sweden is I don't even know, the Stone Age probably, and Latvia's living with the fat commie land whale so really, he could be from any time after 1917-ish.

Oh hey, you're one of my citizens too?! Awesome, I might be starting to beat Japan at having more citizens here! Mostly New Yorkers. You stayin' at my embassy?

Sure I'm sure! I think the country holding hegemony over the would would remember who they are, yeah? Technical explanation is personification and the like, but it's weird that I even have to explain this to people.

Huh, weird.

Yeah, I'm from Amity Park. Where's your embassy? I just moved into some place called Horton.

Personification, huh. [Now there was a familiar concept. He figured it must be something like how Clockwork could be the ghost of time.] I think I get it.

Yeah pretty much. It makes things kinda awkward cuz Sweden keeps speaking freaking French.

Amity Park...? Oh, right! [Must be some newfangled slang for Amityville.] Nah, my embassy's on Marshall! Actually I don't have an ambassador so I gotta run it, but I needed to set up some genuine safe territory as soon as Russia showed up.

Good! Lot's of people around here are crazy or something, because they just can't wrap their heads 'round the idea. What weirdos.

This is going to take some getting used to. So, how many countries are there around here?

I guess safe territory is a good idea. But what does Russia have to do with anything?

Hell if I know. I know me and Canada and England and Finland and Denmark, and there's a bunch of other Europeans but I can't count 'em cuz they keep moving! I don't really pay much attention unless they concern me.

Kid, I know you're from the future, so I'm gonna let this slide. You ever hear of communism? Yeah. That. Oh, and ignoring the whole socioeconomic virus he's trying to infect the world with, he's the leader of his little "household"--and by that I mean prison--called the Soviet Union. The guy's batshit insane. Always been creepy, but ever since WWI he's just been off his goddamn rocker, killing his own people left and right, invading East Europe, blocking me from delivering food to my side of Berlin. Fricking East Germany helped with that one too.

Oh, and he kinda put missiles right near my vital regions.

Needless to say, I'm rooting for the day that bastard finally collapses. He needs to hurry up and collapse so the rest of us can clean up the mess he's made of the world, because God knows he's not gonna.

Communism?

Oh! You mean all that stuff about the cold war. I remember covering that in school. And all the movies.

I've never thought about Russia as a person before, though.

Man, that makes it a little worse to think about.

There's movies about me and Russia in the future? ...Right on!

It's kinda a stretch to think of Russia as a person. More like the essence of evil and vodka wrapped into some fat human form.

Of course. Tons of them, though they can't really use Russians as villains any more.

Um, okay? There's a lovely mental image.

Why not?! They make the perfect villains! Who the hell is left after him? Mexico?

To make it more accurate, visualize him as a land whale.

Wait! I drew it a long time ago! Hold on a sec...

Ghosts. They always get it wrong, of course.

...I'm not sure whether that's disturbing or hysterical.
starspangledhero: (Well okay I guess that's cool)
From: [personal profile] starspangledhero
How, do they make 'em the nice guys? Because unless those things are scary as hell, they need to get their facts straight!

Both, obviously. Just like Russia's entire existence.
From: [identity profile] invisibill.livejournal.com
With the reputation ghosts have in my town? Not likely. [He slips into a singsong mocking tone, obviously quoting someone.] Remember kids, ghosts are scary, scary things.

Seriously, why would anyone want to go see a movie about a ghost that gets half the stuff wrong when real ones already attack a couple times a week.

No worse than Saw IV

They are! Have you ever seen 'em?! They crawl out of toilets and gurgle and fire doesn't stop them or freaking Russia beating it with a pipe doesn't work AND THEY FLOAT AND ARE THE SCARIEST THINGS EVER!

Exactly! Except back home, they didn't attack all the time, just when I least expected. Here it's all the damn time!

You know, I can't say I've ever seen one climb out of a toilet.

A pipe? I'm not surprised. That's why people at home leave it to the professionals.

...For what that's worth.
