Into the Labyrinth:

At the first step into the Labyrinth of Graves, the familiar steps of the high school shift changing from daylight to darkness, from a school to a fog shrouded maze of city streets. The only light comes from street lamps, although these are few and far between.

It is difficult to navigate here. Here and there is a known building or a familiar intersection, but the thick fog covers everything and all the street signs have vanished. Here and there a familiar landmark might be spotted, but they are out of order, and in the completely wrong places. Some of them even seem to be hazy, as if they are starting to fade away. Try to touch them, and they may even vanish. And there are other places here. Insubstantial buildings and streets that have never existed in Kaisou, but which are beginning to become as real as the half-faded places.

Occasionally people cross through the streets, nearly as insubstantial as the city itself. For the most part they ignore everything around them, as if they don't even see it. If you do manage to get their attention, most will react with panic and run away. And even that is better than the few who look at you with horror and attack, trying to drive you away from the center of the maze of streets.

And there is something else out there in the fog. Strange whispers, and half seen shapes that haunt your steps. Step away from the group, and they lunge out of the darkness, revealing themselves to be things with terrifying, exaggerated features and long reaching arms, bearing only a thin resemblance to ghosts and fae. They circle around groups, but chase and hunt anyone they catch alone. If they can, they will drag you to one of the buildings and trap you there.

These are not true ghosts or Fae, but warped creatures created by Danny's fears. Attempts to hit them directly will only pass through them. But they can be caught by surprise or tricked. It will be easier to hurt them with magic or fire then to fight them with physical attacks.

[OOC: Feel free to NPC any of the monsters or attackers in this section. If you'd rather thread it out with a played monster or attacker, just send me a message.]

Locked Within:

If you search long enough, deep within the labyrinth of dark city streets you will come across a strange circular structure made of a strange silvery metal, standing alone in the center of a road. Unlike the other buildings and structures it is more present, more there. Although something seems horribly out of place and menacing about it, as if it had been set down here without thought, Come closer and listen carefully, and you might even hear the sound of the crackle of electricity and a faint scream coming from it.

A circular panel blocks the center of the structure, with no sign of a key or a keyhole, although there is a small keyboard installed at the base. A close look at the surrounding buildings will find faded letters printed on a nearby wall.

Click for Solution Crossroads

The shape of the words give a hint to the solution. Figure out the answer and put it in using the keyboard.

If you answer the puzzle correctly, the gate will open, revealing a dark tunnel lined with scattered cables and wiring hanging loose across the floor, making it easy to trip. The entire structure has a faint green glow on the inside, lending it a menacing air. Occasionally electricity sparks across wiring. Be careful not to come to close to any loose wires or you may get a sharp shock.

Answer incorrectly, and the ghosts will rush towards the structure, grasping and shrieking as they seek to drive any of the living away from it. If they catch anyone, they will return them to the outside of the maze.

Maze of Reflections; Treacherous Paths

Go through to the other side, and you find yourself in a maze of mirrors spreading out in every direction. The space is dimly lit, with green light filtering down from the ceiling, and there are no clear clues showing the way. Choose a path, any path. But step carefully. Here, there are traps and triggers hidden throughout the halls. Hidden switches in the floor trigger pitfalls, dropping victims unto lower levels of the maze. Fall, and you will have to waste time navigating through yet another maze with almost every path leading back towards the start. Leaning on the wall could set off a collapse of an entire path, the mirrors shattering and falling to the ground. Anyone who gets caught here must move quickly or else risk getting injured by the broken glass.

The path continues, winding through mirrors of many kinds and shapes until meeting a glass barrier blocking the way forward. Here, the maze appears almost neglected. Cracks spiderweb through the mirrors and and dust lies thick on the ground. As if this area had been forgotten.

The light is dim and faded here, but If you search the hallway, you will find three symbols hidden on the walls and floor.

Click for SolutionX. Orion Y. Ursa Major Z. Cassiopeia

On the glass barrier, nearly completely rubbed away, you will find three matching symbols, with a space beside each to write their name. Identify them correctly, and the barrier will shatter and allow you to pass through. Identify them incorrectly, and the floor underneath will vanish, dropping you down into the lower layer of the maze. Here, the paths through the maze are smaller and darker. And there are ghosts hidden in the shadows, waiting to attack and drive you away. Like other ghosts in the labyrinth they cannot be attacked directly, but can be tricked or surprised. Magic and fire will work best.

Maze of Reflections; Shadows of Memories

As you move on through the maze, the hallways grow darker and smaller. Finally you emerge into a long hallway filled with mirrors on both sides. Most of the mirrors here will only show you own image, spreading out across the maze in endless confusing reflections. But look closely enough, and some of the mirrors show moments of Danny's life caught in time. Many of them are glimpses of Danny's life in Kaisou. Danny as he was once, happy in his ordinary life with dreams of the stars and the future. Others show moment of the past year. There is happiness here too, but also a growing stress of uncertainty.

But nearly as many show Danny in other places and times. Danny, in a life that wasn’t quite normal, but with a loving family and dreams nonetheless. Danny, walking into a dark tunnel, until he is swallowed up by green light. Danny, being hunted by angry humans wielding weapons. Danny, finding new dreams and purpose in a life of heroism. Danny, fighting glowing monsters many times his size. Danny at peace, flying through the night sky. But also Danny, looking coldly back as he leaves with the Fae forever. Danny, running toward an explosion with desperation on his face. Danny, abandoning his human life as he fades fully into a ghost. An older Danny, laughing as he destroys everything around him.

But there are more threats here. Draw too close to a mirror, and you may be drawn inside, forced to watch the memory or nightmare play out. Or perhaps even to participate.

And the more the memories and nightmares appear, the more twisted and uncertain the path becomes.

[OOC: If you want to get drawn into a specific memory, send me a pm or other message for plotting.]

To Face Your Shadow:

Danny didn't know where he was, or how he had ended up here. All he knew is that he'd been flying to the beach when he spotted something dragging people down into darkness. He'd tried to help, and the next moment shadowy hands had come out of nowhere and pulled him into this nightmare. He didn't even know how long he'd been here. All that he knew was that he couldn't leave. And that... he was here too.

Danny didn't know who he was either. It was like... he was some kind of reflection or copy. A nightmare. He kept coming back here, turning him back every time he tried to escape. And he kept saying so many horrible things. He'd told Danny t
hat he was a monster, made up of creatures that could never be trusted. That he wasn't even alive. He couldn't even die properly. That maybe it was better if he stayed alone, because what place did something like him have in the world? If the people in Kaisou ever truly saw what he was, he would never be accepted. He'd be hunted and hated just like his other self had been. And worst of all, they were all things that Danny had told himself before. He'd tried to forget. He had! He knew none of it was true. Everyone had thoughts like that sometimes, right? But the longer he was trapped here, the harder it was to keep convincing himself not to listen. Because, what if it was true?

Lost in his misery, Danny had climbed up and perched on a pile of rubble at the very center of the maze that might have been a building once. Sitting with his arms wrapped around his knees, and his wings drooping, almost as if something was weighing them down. He refuses to look up at the sound of footsteps moving through the rubble.

“Leave me alone,” Danny mutters without much energy, too wrapped in misery to do anything else. “Haven’t you already done enough?”

The shadow laughs at that. “Oh, nowhere near enough. You’re still clinging onto that childish belief that caring for other people somehow matters. That it proves you’re still human. Don’t you think it’s about time you grew up and accepted the truth? You were always meant to be a monster.”

That manages to break through Danny’s exhaustion and he responds with more energy. “What? No! I’m not going to give up on caring for people. I’m not a monster! I won’t become that! That’s-”

The shadow's voice remains darkly amused. “What has caring for other people ever gotten you? Parents who are barely even there? When was the last time they saw you? Instead of the son they think they know?“

Danny winces and tightens his hands into his fists. “My parents…. It’s not their fault! They can’t see through the veil. I’m sure if they could just see…”

“What? If they could just see you, they’d accept you? How naive.” The shadow leans over and laughs as he pulls one of Danny’s wings forward, forcing him to look at it. “Would they even recognize you now? And how about those friends you’ve been clinging onto? Are you sure they even trust you? And maybe they’re right. You're a ghost and you're a Fae, and who would be foolish enough to put any trust in those?”

“I’m still human! Part of me is still human. I’m sure of it! My friends trust me!” Although he couldn’t ignore the doubt. Varian had lied to him, and even if he understood why. It still hurt. And if even Varian hadn’t trusted him enough to tell him the truth… what about his other friends? Did they really trust him?

The shadow grins, showing off his fangs, as he turns to face the entrance and sees the rescue party arriving. “Oh, really? If you trust them so much, then why are you afraid to tell them about your magic? Have you told them that your past self was hunted for what he was? And by his own parents? That you're a threat to the world just waiting to happen?”

Danny grasps uselessly for words to defend himself. He wasn’t even sure why he hadn’t told anyone. Just that… Just because he had the ability now didn’t mean he had to use it. He could just pretend it wasn’t there. And he just hadn't wanted anyone to worry, knowing about some of the things that had happened to the other him. But… his friends, they wouldn’t reject him for something like that, right? And as he turns, he finally spots someone arriving. He flinches back with mingled hope and dread. They'd come for him! Someone had come for him. That meant they did really care about him, right?

....But how much had they heard of all of that? Did they know, now?

The shadow places a hand on Danny's shoulder and tightens his grip as he speaks in a mocking tone. "Why look who it is! A rescue party. Turns out someone missed you after all." Here he turns and addresses the new arrival. "Then again, do you know what Danny here's been hiding from you? Is that really what a friend would do?"

With his free hand the shadow toys with a ball of bright green energy, clearly anticipating the response.

Canon History:
Danny grew up as the youngest son of a pair of ghost-hunting scientists and inventors, and was a bit of a social outcast for that reason. At the age of 14 they finished their life's work, a portal to the ghost dimension. When it didn't work on the first test, Danny entered it on a dare from his friends, half because of curiosity and half because he wanted to see if there was anything he could do to help. It opened while he was inside, and he was caught between two dimensions. The accident mutated his DNA with ectoplasm and turned him into something in between ghost and human.

Danny spent about a month trying to get his newly acquired powers under control, all the while hoping they would just go away. A ghost attack at his school changed that, and Danny realized that he had a purpose for his powers now. To use them to protect his town from ghost attacks. And that's how he became a superhero. Over time he grew through many adventures and new threats.

CRAU history:

Danny was recruited as a hero by a dimension traveling train to help other worlds. He worried about the world he left behind, but figured if he had to be kidnapped again, at least this time it was for a good reason. As months passed on the train, Danny began to slowly realize that he liked his new life. For the first time since the accident he was able to sleep without worrying about being attacked in the middle of the night. He could protect people without worrying about being hunted and attacked for what he was. After a mission ended in his very public reveal of his powers, he was even able to live his life as a ghost and a human without needing to hide his identity.

And he began to feel incredibly guilty as he realized that maybe he didn't want to go back. Or at least not to the situation in his world as it had been. He still loved his family and cared about his town.... but did he really want to spend the rest of his life always hiding half of what he was?

After a few bad missions with his powers blocked, Danny sought out help in actually learning how to fight and to his own surprise began to enjoy learning new ways of fighting, both with and without his powers.

During one mission Danny had his memories rewritten with a normal life. With a supportive parent and sisters that he was close to. When he broke through the false memories he discovered that one of his sisters was actually his clone from home, who had gone on to have adventures of her own in another world. After the mission she appeared on the train with him, and Danny jumped at the chance to reconnect. Through conversations with her, Danny was forced to look at his own self-sacrificing nature and to realize that he couldn't just pretending that he was just another kid with a few powers. He was potentially dangerous even if he never used his powers to their full potential, and he needed to take responsibility for that.

Please list and explain the three worst (morally) things your character has ever done in canon:
  • Using his powers to prank the school bully. It was fairly justified, because the bully in question had been awful to Danny for a long time. But as Danny realized. Just because it was justified didn't mean it was right to use his powers in that way.
  • Lying to his parents. Repeatedly and constantly. He had very good reasons for it, considering his parents are ghost hunters who are hunting his ghost side, and hes heard them talking about what the experiments they want to run. But he still feel guilty about it.
  • Destroying the ghost writer's christmas poem. Danny let his temper and bad feelings about his parents annual holiday fight get to him, and he accidentally destroyed a poem written by a ghost who had done nothing to him. But he learned his lesson, and resolved to do better.

Please list and explain the three best (morally) things your character has ever done in canon.:
  • Chose to use his powers to do the right thing, despite being treated badly by the very people he was trying to save.
  • Rejected Vlad's offer to train him in return for renouncing his family. This likely would have ended in Danny being trained in using his powers for selfish reasons if not becoming a villain's apprentice. Danny completely rejected the idea and resolved to learn to use his powers on his own.
  • Upon meeting his self from an alternate future where everything had gone wrong, and he had become a complete monster, Danny made a promise to never become that. He fought against his own dark future and won.

Please list and explain the three worst (morally) things your character has ever done in other games:
  • Lied to other passengers for the first month or so about what he was.
  • Persistently punned at people.
  • An occasional prank
Please list and explain the three best (morally) things your character has ever done in in other games.:
  • Volunteered for the most dangerous rescue missions at every opportunity, taking any chance to help people. Also repeatedly burned himself out into exhaustion helping people .
  • Jumped into a cage filled with trapped spirits trying to help, and got caught with them.
  • Tried to help new arrivals to the train adjust.
Please put the twelve things above on a timeline relevant to each other:
  • Chose to use his powers to do the right thing, despite being treated badly by the very people he was trying to save.
  • Rejected a villain's offer to train him in return for renouncing his family. This likely would have ended in Danny being trained in using his powers for selfish reasons if not becoming a villain's apprentice. Danny completely rejected the idea and resolved to learn to use his powers on his own.
  • Lying to his parents. Repeatedly and constantly. He had very good reasons for it, considering his parents are ghost hunters who are hunting his ghost side, and hes heard them talking about what the experiments they want to run. But he still feels guilty about it.
  • Using his powers to prank the school bully. It was fairly justified, because the bully in question had been awful to Danny for a long time. But as Danny realized. Just because it was justified didn't mean it was right to use his powers in that way.
  • Upon meeting his self from an alternate future where everything had gone wrong, and he had become a complete monster, Danny made a promise to never become that. He fought against his own dark future and won.

Do you consider your character a hero, an anti-hero, a good aligned side kick, a bystander, a victim, a fence sitter, a mercenary, an evil aligned side kick, a villain, or something else? Why?:
Hero.

Although Danny's powers come from a source that most scientists and authorities in his world consider to be evil (they're wrong), and he has been framed as a villain before, he has dedicated himself to protecting everyone around him. No matter what they think of him.

Do you think your character should start on the Isle or in Auradon? Why?:
Auradon

Although Danny has the potential to go a dark route, he has already rejected it.

Which of those two would you prefer your character to start in?:
Auradon

Are you still interested in having this character in this game at this time if that preference is not met?:
Yes.

Powers and Abilities:
Transforming into a ghost
Intangibility
Invisibility
Flight
Ectoplasmic rays and shields
Possession of other humans (with permission only) and some objects
Dreamwalking (with permission only)
Sensing the presence of other ghosts
Ghost Ice (Creation and Manipulation)
Telekinesis (Beginning Proficiency)

What clothing/items did your character arrive with? (See rules and FAQ for what is allowed, feel free to ask if you are unsure):
Shirt, Jeans, sneakers, NASA hoodie, cell phone in his pocket

What mod candy, if any, does your character bring? (Aka what elements would you really like to see us play with?):
He's a ghost, which comes with all kinds of opportunities for cross canon misunderstandings.

The dimension of ghosts which Danny is connected to is canonly connected to every place and time.

What else do you think the mods should know about your character or their canon?:
Feel free to contact for any questions

Character Name: Danny Fenton
Canon: Danny Phantom
Canon History: Here

Canon Personality:
  • Laid-back and easy going.
  • A little mischievous. He likes pranks and terrible puns.
  • Stubborn
  • Overprotective
  • Overdeveloped sense of responsibility
  • Prone to doubting and blaming himself
  • Curious. Fascinated by the idea of exploring somewhere no one else has been.
  • Sarcastic and a little cynical
  • Paranoid
  • Wants to believe the best of people, but also is too much of a realist to put too much trust in them.
  • Just wants to be accepted as he is, but isn’t sure if that’s possible.

AU History:
Danny grew up in Kaisou. He’s an only child, with parents that are affectionate, but very busy. And so he has been left to his own devices a lot.

He has a strong interest in astronomy and space, and can often be found on the weekends setting up his telescope. He has thought about becoming an astronaut, but isn’t sure yet whether he wants to pursue that in college or not. Lately he’s also started to take an interest in engineering and in tinkering with gadgets.

He likes terrible monster movies and video games. He’s not much of a reader, unless its something he’s interested in.

He attends the local high school, where his favorite classes are sciences. He’s not in any clubs or extracurriculars, but he’s been thinking about joining some.

AU Personality Differences:
  • Danny is a little more confident than his canon self, due to never dealing with the bullying that came from being a member of “that weird ghost hunting family”.
  • Danny is less paranoid. Here he hasn’t had to live under the constant stress of a double life, so he’s not looking for an attack around every corner. And he’s also a little more naive and much more willing to trust people.
  • In canon Danny spent a lot of time doubting himself when it came to school, and comparing himself to his family of geniuses. Even though he had the ability to do well in school, he never found the motivation to apply himself. Here he is far more confident in his ability to do well, and was able to pursue some of his interests.
  • Danny…. does not believe in ghosts.

Name: Danny Fenton (Danny Phantom)
Canon: Danny Phantom
Canon Point: Just after D-Stabilized in Season 3
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: OU
Age: 16

World Information:

Personal History:
Link

Personality:
Danny has a laid-back and easygoing personality, but can be very sarcastic and cynical at times. He is very stubborn and over protective of his family and friends. Danny has a lame sense of humor, which often manifests itself as corny puns. In public he seems like nothing more than a typically lazy, klutzy and easily bullied teenager. And in a sense, he is still one. He likes to hang out with his friends and listen to popular music. He enjoys bowling and video games. He is bad at math, but loves astronomy and dreams of being an astronaut some day.

But deep inside, Danny has an overdeveloped sense of duty and a streak of responsibility a mile wide. He genuinely wants to do the right thing, and will do so even if it hurts him. As he put it once, 'I can't ignore a cry for help.' This feeling of responsibility and justice has often driven him to help even people who are normally his enemies. He has a habit of blaming himself every time someone gets hurt that he could have saved.

At the same time, his determination to do the right thing has put him in conflict many times with the desire to use his powers for selfish purposes. He has been tempted in the past To play pranks on the school bullies and to get out of trouble with his parents. But every time he has given into this urge it has always come back to hurt him.

More than anything else, Danny has always dreamed of acceptance. That he could tell the world about his secret and he wouldn't have to fear being shipped off to a lab to be experimented on. That people wouldn't automatically assume he has evil intentions every time he meets them. That they could accept that he only wants to help. And that he wouldn't have to face his own parents as enemies half the time.

He would like to believe that the world would accept his ghost side, but he has spent too much time being treated as a monster by the media and ghost hunters. He has a hard time believing that the entire world could change their minds about him that quickly.is just a little too cynical to put too much faith in that. At some level he has accepted that he doesn't truly belong to either world. He's too much of a ghost to be human and too much of a human to be a ghost. He will never be just an ordinary kid. And if he isn't okay with it, at least he has come to terms with it.

Living as a supernatural vigilante has left Danny with some lasting personality traits. He is always a little paranoid, always waiting for the next ghost attack or the next ghost-hunter to come after him. He has serious trust issues, as well. The only people he trusts completely are his friends Sam and Tucker, his sister Jazz, and a ghost named Clockwork. He is still wary of adults. He may like some of them, but he never trusts them completely. Perhaps because every new adult he has considered trusting in the past year has ended up betraying him on some level.

Danny's greatest fear is himself. In an adventure with time travel, Danny met a future version of himself that was everything he had never wanted to be. That future version of Danny had destroyed most of the world simply because he could. When he discovered Danny in the future, he had trapped him there and returned to Danny' present solely to ensure that all of Danny's family and friends died on schedule. He was a monster, and Danny is terrified of ever becoming something like that. He made a promise to his family never to become that. But hasn't forgotten any of it.

Key themes:
*Accepting Yourself.
Danny's primary theme is learning to accept that who and what he is is something okay to be. His motivation changes over the course of the series from just wanting to be normal to realizing that actually its more than okay to be himself, no matter how weird that self might be.

*Becoming a Hero
Danny also has the character theme of developing from being just a kid with weird powers he can't control, to becoming an experienced hero by the end of the third season.

Main Motivation:
More than anything else, Danny just wants to do the right thing. He fails sometimes. Doing the right thing can be hard, and he sometimes falters and tries to take the easy way out. But in the end, he always comes back to make the right decision.

Skills:
Through an accident with an interdimensional portal Danny's DNA was fused with ghost energy. This left him with the ability to transform into a ghost and use a variety of ghostly abilities.

*Invisibility
*Intangibility

Is a non-working vacation too much to ask for? I mean, come on. One day off. After what happened last week I deserve that.

[A dark-haired teenage boy is scowling unhappily into the camera. He sighs heavily and drags a hand through his hair.]

Okay,so let me just get this straight. I've been kidnapped. Again. And we're stuck on an inter-dimensional train. [He grins a little, not really sure whether to keep complaining over the situation or nerd out a little at the scenery.] But...I'm not going to lie, the part with the void is actually kind of cool. I mean, its not NASA or the space shuttle or anything. But still cool.

Who knows what kinds of places we'll get to explore out there?

Danny has a few abilities that he will only be using with permission and prior plotting.

Overshadowing:

Danny has the ability to possess other characters for a short time. While being overshadowed, the character's eye color will change to match Danny's eyes and he will be able to use his other abilities like flight and intangibility. Someone with a high amount of willpower will be able to fight the possession and eject him.

Dreamwalking:

As an extension of overshadowing, Danny has the ability to enter other character's dreams while they are asleep.

Drop a comment and let me know if you want to do any plotting with these powers.

schrodingersghost: (fenton - not my day)
...I hate Christmas.
schrodingersghost: (Default)
So... who's planning on staying inside and avoiding all the Halloween stuff?

Except for the free candy.
schrodingersghost: (hate my life)
Oh come on, not again!
schrodingersghost: (phantom revelations)
[When the video post comes on today, most of the people who know Danny Fenton would expect the same teenage boy to appear. But today, a very different face who has no relation to Danny Fenton at all is using the communicator. It is a rather apologetic looking white haired boy of about Danny's age who appears to be glowing faintly even in the daylight. Nothing of his location can be seen apart from the sky.]

I think I owe everyone a apology. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Danny Phantom. Yes, I'm a ghost. And no, I'm not evil. I've been around the city for a while, but I don't have a communicator. Actually, I'm posting this on a communicator I borrowed from some kid. I'll give it back before he realizes its gone.

....Speaking of which, you should totally get to know him. He seems cool.

Anyway, all that ice? I'm pretty sure it was my fault. I still don't really understand what happened, but I can't remember much of last week except ice and cold. I think I might have developed a new power. But I can't control it very well.

...And that's the last thing. I'm leaving the city for a while. Until I'm sure I won't be freezing anyone else. Try not to destroy things too much while I'm gone?

[ooc:And there's the end of the ice plot. Replies to this post will be tagged with either Danny Fenton or Danny Phantom, depending on how long after the post they are made. Yes, this is the first time Phantom has revealed himself to the entire city. And he is still trying to keep Fenton and Phantom separate. After this post he will be taking off for the forest to train himself in his new powers. Feel free to intercept him with an action tag or backtag on his waking up log.]
schrodingersghost: (no more)
[At first the only thing visible in the feed is a huge pile of blankets. After a moment Danny pokes his head out and glares blearily at the communicator, visibly shivering. He attempts to speak through chattering teeth.]

W-why is it so cold here all of a s-sudden? Isn't it s-supposed to be s-summer?

[He pulls the blankets back over his head again, not noticing the thin tracery of ice starting to form where his fingers had just touched.]

[ooc: Event start, details here. ]
schrodingersghost: (hate my life)
[The video clicks on with a thump, as the communicator falls out of Danny's limp hand. The teen's whole posture seems to be slumped with absolute exhaustion. Rubbing his eyes sleepily, the teen walks across the room.

...And right into the wall next to the door.
]

Oh. Right. Wall.

[He backs up and walks through the actual door into his bedroom and crashes onto his bed in absolute exhaustion. He starts mumbling into his pillow.]

I so need a vacation.
schrodingersghost: (i want to run away)
Seems like everyone is disappearing this week.

[Danny sighs heavily and doesn't say anything for a long moment.]

Jazz is gone. So are Leo and Mikey.

Sam? Please tell me you're still here.
schrodingersghost: (hands)
Hey, Jazz? Sounds like I'm going to be a little late getting home. I-

[Danny suddenly cuts off his sentence as shouting can be heard in the background. There is a clattering sound as he drops his communicator and then the sound of running footsteps.]

Hey! What do you think you're doing!

Are you interfering with police business?

Yes! I'm not going to let you hurt that kid!

[And then there is the sound of a short struggle followed by a single gunshot.]
