40 Ghosts [text/action; locked to roommates] backdated to Dec. 20

[Danny sits on his bed tightly holding a cloth to his shoulder and trying to clean the salt out of his shoulder. He'd made it back to his room. Eventually. Who knew getting shot with salt would hurt this much? He just lies there for a moment, breathing harshly and clutching his shoulder, before he forces himself to reach for his communicator.

This sucked. He just knew anyone he asked for help would freak out. But of course he just had to get shot in a spot he couldn't bandage on his own.]

[Don brings the cup and bucket closer to Danny.]

I'm afraid that this is going to hurt. ... You ready?

As ready as I'll ever be. Just get it over with.

All right. Hold still.

[Don slowly pours the cup of water over the wound to clean it out. He knows that it'll take multiple cups to get it clean enough to bandage, so he's glad that Danny has a high pain tolerance.]

[Danny grits his teeth and fights the urge to turn intangible.]

[Don inspects the wound once the cup is empty.]

I think I'll have to do this a few more times. [A pause.] ... So tell me about this new ghost hunter.

Figures.

His name is Dean. At least I think that's his real name. He gave me a fake name the first time I talked to him. He says he's some kind of government ghost hunter in his world, but I don't know how much of that to believe.

[Don frowns a bit in thought again.]

Seems like that'd be something you wouldn't lie about. He's probably telling at least a portion of the truth. From what I can see, he certainly doesn't like ghosts.

[He refills the cup and nods to Danny to give the halfa a chance to pepare before pouring the water again.]

And he definitely believes that salt destroys ghosts. Said something about silver and werewolves too.

[Danny nods back and braces himself.]

So he goes around trying to destroy things before understanding them. I don't like his methods.

[Don pours this cup of water as slowly as the first.]

[Danny winces, but doesn't move.]

Pretty standard attitude for a ghost hunter.

I suppose that's why they're hunters instead of ghostologist.

They're more into the capture first so you can run lots and lots of painful experiments part of it.

[A sigh as he inspects the shoulder again.]

So they still exercise brute force in place of true curiosity.

Oh, they're curious. Well, Mom and Dad are. But they don't really think of ghosts as something that can be hurt.

Anything can be hurt. It just might take more to hurt some beings than others.

[Don goes to fill the glass again.]

Mom thinks the more painful a test is for a ghost, the better it is.

... Remind me to talk discretely to your mother about that subject if it ever comes up. She might listen to me somewhat, considering how people sometimes want to experiment on us.

I've tried. But its kind of hard to argue against it without admitting I'm a ghost.

You can't properly argue from the other side like I can, Danny. I'm not a ghost, but I've run into people that want to study and dissect me and my brothers.

[Don remembers the cup and lifts it again. It's once more full of water.]

Yeah, go for it.

[And Don pours some more water into the wound. It's starting to look pretty clean.]
