Content Opt-out post link: N/A

Age: 15

Gender/Sex: Male

Appearance:

As a human, Danny is short for his age and rather scrawny, with a tendency to slump his posture. He has black hair and blue eyes. As a ghost, Danny tends to stand with much more self confidence. His hair is white and his eyes glow bright green. Although not obvious in daylight, he constantly has a pale white glow around him.

History:
Danny grew up as the relatively normal son of a pair of extremely enthusiastic ghost scientists and inventors. But by the time he was fourteen, he wanted nothing to do with his parent's career.

That all changed when his parents finished their life's work. A prototype ghost portal that would open a permanent door into the parallel dimension where ghosts dwelled. When the invention failed to start, Danny was persuaded to enter it by his friends. Only to discover that his Dad had put the on switch inside the portal. When Danny accidentally hit it, the portal started to open. He was still inside.

The accident left him with ghost energy fused to his very DNA and the ability to transform into a ghostly version of himself. At first all Danny wanted was to find a way to get rid of his powers and be normal again. But when ghosts started to attack, he suddenly found a reason for his powers.

He was half-ghost, and he could fight these ghosts at a level that no other ghost hunter could. And with that realization, Danny began his career as a ghost-powered superhero.

Personality:
Danny has a laid-back and easygoing personality, but can be very sarcastic and cynical at times. He is very stubborn and over protective of his family and friends. Danny has a lame sense of humor, which often manifests itself as corny puns. In public he seems like nothing more than a typically lazy, klutzy and easily bullied teenager. And in a sense, he is still one. He likes to hang out with his friends and listen to popular music. He enjoys bowling and video games. He is bad at math, but loves astronomy. And Danny has all the typical teenage worries about school and family.

But deep inside, Danny has an overdeveloped sense of duty and a strong streak of responsibility. He genuinely wants to do the right thing, and will do so even if it hurts him. As he put it once, 'I can't ignore a cry for help.' This feeling of responsibility and justice has often driven him to help even people who are normally his enemies.

He gives in sometimes to the temptation of using his powers for pranks and to get back at the bullies, but in the end he always comes back to do the right thing.

More than anything else, Danny has always dreamed of acceptance. He would like to believe that the world would accept his ghost side, but he has spent too much time being treated as a monster by the media and ghost hunters. He has a hard time believing that the entire world could change their minds about him that quickly. He is just a little too cynical to put too much faith in that. At some level he has accepted that he doesn't truly belong to either world. He's too much of a ghost to be human and too much of a human to be a ghost. He will never be just an ordinary kid. And if he isn't okay with it, at least he has come to terms with it.

Abilities:
Danny is half-ghost.

An accident in an experimental interdimensional portal fused ectoplasm into his DNA using massive amounts of electricity. His DNA growls and glows now. Because of this, he has access to a wide variety of ghost powers.
  • Invisibility

  • Ectoplasmic manipulation.
    • He can shape ectoplasm into a shield
    • He can fire ectoplasm as an offensive attack

    • A powerful sonic attack strong enough to flip cars and knock down derelict buildings. Danny can only do it once because of how much energy it takes.

    • Because of his ice core he can sense other ghosts.

NAME: Danny Fenton
CANON: Danny Phantom
CANON-POINT: Season 3, after D-Stabilized

DOSSIER

HISTORY:
Link

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?:
Danny is stubborn and overprotective, with an overdeveloped sense of duty.. No one ever asked him to protect his town from the other ghosts. His life could have been easier if he had just tried to live as normal a life as possible. But even at the very beginning of his canon, Danny was searching for a purpose for his powers. He chose to take on the responsibility of protecting his town, even if he didn't fully understand the consequences at the time. It got very difficult at times, but he has never truly regretted making that decision. As he puts it, "If I don't help, who will?"

Danny genuinely wants to do the right thing, even if he does not always succeed. He is often tempted to take the easy way out of problems. But even if he makes the wrong choice at first, Danny always comes back and does what he can to fix things. Over and over again, he has chosen to protect people he doesn't like. He has even chosen to protect people who have bullied him or tried to hurt him.

Although Danny is prone to cynicism, he's still surprisingly optimistic. He wants to believe the best of people, even when he knows that is a bad decision. For example, wanting to give becoming friends with Valerie a chance despite knowing that she was actively trying to destroy his ghost half. He has a surprising willingness to forgive. Danny says several times that everyone deserves a second chance, and he truly seems to believe that.

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?:

Danny might be a superhero, but he's also a teenage boy. He's occasionally clumsy and unobservant. He's easily distracted by girls and video games, although less so than he used to be. He's still gullible enough to be tricked often by his enemies.

Danny tends to swing back forth between being a workaholic when it comes to his superheroing, and desperately wanting to be a normal lazy teenager. At times he has deliberately ignored problems that he really should be paying attention to.

Danny wants to be accepted by the world. At the beginning of the series, this took the form of him pursuing high school popularity at the cost of making stupid or dangerous decisions. He has mostly grown out of this by his current canon point. He still wants to be accepted, but he'd been at this long enough that he doesn't seek it out as much. He has his sister, and he has two good friends. And that has to be enough for now.

Although he is friendly to strangers, Danny has a hard time trusting people he does now know. He doesn't even fully trust a lot of the people he knows well. He's had too many bad experiences.

WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?:

If there was one event in Danny's canon that impacted Danny the most, it would be his encounter with his future self. Up until that point, Danny had fought a lot of dangerous enemies, but nothing that affected him on such a personal level. He wanted to do the right thing, but he'd never seen the consequences of what he could become.

Sent to a dark alternate future, Danny learned that his world had been completely destroyed because of a single choice he'd made. A tragedy caused by a decision to cheat on a test had lead to a world where his family was dead and he had become a monster. A ghost who had killed his own human half, tortured fellow ghosts, and destroyed entire cities. To save his family's lives, Danny had to fight his own future self. And in the midst of that fight, Danny made a promise that he would never allow himself to become something like that.

As a result of this encounter, Danny's greatest fear became himself. Who he could become and what he could be capable of some day.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?:

More than anything else, Danny just wants to do the right thing. He fails sometimes. Doing the right thing can be hard, and he sometimes falters and tries to take the easy way out. But in the end, he always comes back to do the right thing in the end.

Just as importantly, he is determined to never fall from being a hero. He saw an alternate future of what he could be. Danny knows that with what he is and what he will be, he could easily become a monster. He made a promise to his family that he would never let that happen. And even if he is the only one that remembers that promise, he is determined to never break it.

WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?:
The kind of guy who blends into the background a lot. As far as his town is concerned, the most remarkable thing about Danny Fenton is how weird his family is. Most people just see him as a straight C student who likes video games. He's kind of a dork, bad at sports, and gets bullied a lot by the school football team.

People just don't notice him much. And by this point in canon, that is just how Danny likes it.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?:

He's a secret superhero. As Phantom, Danny is courageous and fearless, facing down all the ghosts that no one else can deal with.

And yet even that is an act. The real Danny lies somewhere in between his two acts. The genuinely nice guy who just wants to do the right thing. While making some truly terrible puns.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?:
He charges right in after it.

If the crisis becomes personal, he may have some moments of self doubt, until he is reminded that its up to him to do something about the problem.

WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:
1.  That he likes astronomy
2. That his family are ghost hunters
3. That his sister is awesome, even if she's annoying and overprotective
4. The accident,up until the point he got hit by the ectoplasm
5. A memory of the box ghost ranting at him

1-3, chosen to give him some context for his life
4-5, chosen to make his first few days here really confusing

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:
N/A

  • Weaknesses
    • Electricity. This seems to hurt Danny more than any other kind of injury. A strong electric shock can even short circuit his powers and leave him unable to access his ghost side for hours at a time.
    • Hypnosis. Danny has a certain level of resistance to hypnotic or brainwashing attacks aimed at human minds. But if the attack is powerful enough he can be affected.
    • Anti-ghost weapons. Danny can be injured by anything specifically intended to hurt ghosts. In canon, this includes anti-ghost weaponry, attacks from other ghosts, as well as a plant called a blood blossom which causes him significant pain when he is near it.
    • His own ice powers. Because Danny's ice powers come from his core, he can be hurt by them if he does not release built up ice energy from his core.

INVENTORY:

Fenton Thermos
  • A thermos which has been altered to act as a ghost containment device.
School Backpack
  • Unfinished homework

PROSE-HEAVY:
The problem with being the half-ghost son of ghost-hunters, Danny thought, was the way he constantly ended up in bizarre situations. Apart from, you know, the whole being hunted by his own parents part. Nothing could ever top the sheer wrongness of listening to your parents discussing the best way to dissect your alter ego. Talk about things that no amount of therapy could ever erase.

Still, the point was, if he hadn't been a ghost and if his parents hadn't been incredibly overenthusiastic ghost-hunters he wouldn't end up in situations like this nearly as often. Case in point, the ridiculously oversized and ominous looking invention he was helping his Dad install on the roof of the Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle.

"So, uh, Dad, what exactly was it that this did again?"

His Dad puts down the welder and grins broadly at Danny, practically radiating the sense of cheerfully enthusiastic incompetence that had made the Fentons known and dreaded by most of Amity Park. "I'm glad you asked! This, son, is the Fenton Ecto-obliterator! Just wait till you see what this baby can do to that ghost kid! First it will suck him into this box and then the ectolasers fry him until he's nice and toasty! Mmm, toast. Could you toss up the Fenton Ecto-Wrench?"

Pushing down the sense of nausea that particular description had created, Danny fishes through the toolbox and retrieves a completely ordinary wrench with the Fenton logo printed on the handle. The teen rolls his eyes at his parent's obsession with embossing that on everything and hands it up. "And the thing with all the glowing knives you just added?"

"That was the Ghost Ginzu! We don't want ghosts to have any chance to get away. And this way he'll be all sliced and ready for us to study! This time we'll get that ghost boy for sure!"

Danny's face pales at the thought. Why was it that each of his parent's inventions seemed worst than the last? "Right, Dad. You have fun with that. I think I just remembered some home work that I have to do. In my room. Away from here."

DIALOGUE-HEAVY:

Is a non-working vacation too much to ask for? I mean, come on. One day off. After what happened last week I deserve that.

[A dark-haired teenage boy is scowling unhappily into the camera. He sighs heavily and drags a hand through his hair. Somehow it always ended up like this.]

I didn't think it was possible, but Vlad's become even more of a fruitloop than he was before.  I mean, he was bad before.  But kidnapping and cloning me?  How does that even make sense?  And that's not even getting into what he tried to do to Dani.

Could he possibly get any worse?

[He freezes and moans miserably.]

...Oh, great. I think I just jinxed myself.

Setting Concepts:
Setting: Midsized American city in the Midwest

Setting Time: Late 2000s, with the occasional time travel episode.

Ghosts:
Odd manifestations of ectoplasm and post-human consciousness. They can take the appearance of anything, from animals and mythological creatures to pop stars and postal workers. Some ghosts even seem to represent concepts like nature, weather or time. Many ghosts are actively malevolent, although others are friendly or just want to be left alone. Some ghosts were formerly humans, but others were born as ghosts.

Halfa: Half a human, half a ghost. Something that is alive and dead at the same time. They can change between human and ghost at will.

Ghost-Hunters:
Humans who have dedicated themselves to hunting down ghosts in the human world. Most of them believe that all ghosts are evil, and are prone to shooting first and asking questions never.

Guys in White:
A ghost-hunting organization funded by the government.

Amity Park:
A mid-sized American town that used to be normal. A nice place to live, according to the billboards. Has been sucked into an alternate dimension at least once. Currently the most haunted town in America. Its been attacked by ghosts so many times that the daily ghost report has a section on the nightly news just after the weather report.

Ghost Zone: The alternate reality where ghosts live. It is like a mirror of the human world, where everything is reversed. In the ghost zone, humans are the ones who are intangible. The ghost zone looks like an endless void filled with glowing green energy and floating doors and islands. Each door and island leads to the home of a ghost.

FentonWorks: A business which specializes in inventing anti-ghost weaponry. It is owned by Danny's parents and operated out of his house.  Which would explain why his house has a weapons vault and a rooftop operation center which converts into a blimp which transforms into a jet.

Fenton Portal: A permanent interdimensional portal between the ghost zone and the human world. Danny's parents built it in the basement.  It was the portal that turned Danny into a half-ghost.

Fenton Thermos: A thermos modified to trap and hold ghosts.

Ectoplasm: Ghost energy. Its green, it glows, and it makes no logical sense.

Anti-Ecto Control Act: A law which was passed to control ghosts. It makes it legal to capture and experiment on ghosts. Danny has nearly been arrested under it before.

Dan Phantom: An evil version of Danny from an alternate future timeline that no longer exists. Danny changed his own future to keep that version of himself from ever existing. In that timeline, Danny went insane. He couldn't take the pain after all of his friends and family were killed and tried to remove his ghost half from his human half. His ghost half merged with his arch-enemy's ghost half, probably killed his human half, destroyed most of the human world, and crippled most of the ghosts. The possibility of becoming something like that scares Danny like nothing else.

Christmas Truce: The one day in the year when no ghosts attack. The truce is enforced by all ghosts.

But thinking that was all there was to Danny Fenton would be a terrible mistake. Deep inside, Danny has an overdeveloped sense of duty and a streak of responsibility a mile wide. He genuinely wants to do the right thing, and will do so even if it hurts him. As he put it once, 'I can't ignore a cry for help.' This feeling of responsibility and justice has often driven him to help even people who are normally his enemies. He has a habit of blaming himself every time someone gets hurt that he could have saved.

At the same time, his determination to do the right thing has put him in conflict many times with the desire to use his powers for selfish purposes. He has been tempted in the past To play pranks on the school bullies and to get out of trouble with his parents. But every time he has given into this urge it has always come back to hurt him.

More than anything else, Danny has always dreamed of acceptance. That he could tell the world about his secret and he wouldn't have to fear being shipped off to a lab to be experimented on. That people wouldn't automatically assume he has evil intentions every time he meets them. That they could accept that he only wants to help. And that he wouldn't have to face his own parents as enemies half the time.

Living as a supernatural vigilante has left Danny with some lasting personality traits. He is always a little paranoid, always waiting for the next ghost attack or the next ghost-hunter to come after him. He has serious trust issues, as well. The only people he trusts completely are his friends Sam and Tucker, his sister Jazz, and a ghost named Clockwork. He is still wary of adults. He may like some of them, but he never trusts them completely. Perhaps because every new adult he has considered trusting in the past year has ended up betraying him on some level.

Danny's greatest fear is himself. In an adventure with time travel, Danny met a future version of himself that was everything he had never wanted to be. His 'evil jerky future self' (as Danny called him) was a sadistic psychopath who only understood destruction. He had murdered his human half in a way that was 'better left unsaid'. He'd destroyed most of the world simply because he could. He'd murdered an unknown number of humans, destroyed cities, and sadistically mutilated ghosts. When he discovered Danny in the future, he had trapped him there and returned to Danny' present solely to ensure that all of Danny's family and friends died on schedule. Danny is terrified of ever becoming something like that. Worst of all, he could sort of understand some of the decisions that version of him had made, and that scared him. He made a promise to his family never to become that. But hasn't forgotten any of it.

Danny is afraid that some day he won't be strong enough or fast enough to save someone. At the same time, he is afraid of becoming too powerful. From his adventures in time, he knows that in only ten years he could be so powerful that no one would be able to stop him if he ever fell.

Okay, so let me just get this straight. The giant turtle is actually a thing? Someone isn't just pulling a really elaborate joke on me?

Yeah, never mind. Don't even bother answering that. I think I already know the answer.

[When the video post comes on today, most of the people who know Danny Fenton would expect the same teenage boy to appear.  But today, a very different face who has no relation to Danny Fenton at all is using the communicator.  It is a rather apologetic looking white haired boy of about Danny's age who appears to be glowing faintly even in the daylight.  Nothing of his location can be seen apart from the sky.]

I think I owe everyone a apology.  For those of you who don't know me, I'm Danny Phantom.  Yes, I'm a ghost.  And no, I'm not evil.  I've been around the city for a while, but I don't have a communicator.  Actually, I'm posting this on a communicator I borrowed from some kid.  I'll give it back before he realizes its gone.

....Speaking of which, you should totally get to  know him.  He seems cool.

Anyway, all that ice?  I'm pretty sure it was my fault.  I still don't really understand what happened, but I can't remember much of last week except ice and cold.  I think I might have developed a new power.  But I can't control it very well.

...And that's the last thing.  I'm leaving the city for a while.  Until I'm sure I won't be freezing anyone else.  Try not to destroy things too much while I'm gone?

[ooc:And there's the end of the ice plot.  Replies to this post will be tagged with either Danny Fenton or Danny Phantom, depending on how long after the post they are made.  Yes, this is the first time Phantom has revealed himself to the entire city.  And he is still trying to keep Fenton and Phantom separate.  After this post he will be taking off for the forest to train himself in his new powers.  Feel free to intercept him with an action tag or backtag on his waking up log.]
schrodingersghost: (no more)
[At first the only thing visible in the feed is a huge pile of blankets. After a moment Danny pokes his head out and glares blearily at the communicator, visibly shivering.    He attempts to speak through chattering teeth.]

W-why is it so cold here all of a s-sudden?   Isn't it s-supposed to be s-summer?

[He pulls the blankets back over his head again, not noticing the thin tracery of ice starting to form where his fingers had just touched.]

[ooc: Event start, details here.  ]
schrodingersghost: (hate my life)
[The video clicks on with a thump, as the communicator falls out of Danny's limp hand.  The teen's whole posture seems to be slumped with absolute exhaustion.  Rubbing his eyes sleepily, the teen walks across the room.

...And right into the wall next to the door.

Oh.  Right.  Wall.

[He backs up and walks through the actual door into his bedroom and crashes onto his bed in absolute exhaustion.  He starts mumbling into his pillow.]

I so need a vacation.
schrodingersghost: (i want to run away)
Seems like everyone is disappearing this week.

[Danny sighs heavily and doesn't say anything for a long moment.]

Jazz is gone.  So are Leo and Mikey.

Sam?  Please tell me you're still here.
schrodingersghost: (hands)
Hey, Jazz?  Sounds like I'm going to be a little late getting home. I-

[Danny suddenly cuts off his sentence as shouting can be heard in the background.  There is a clattering sound as he drops his communicator and then the sound of running footsteps.]

Hey!  What do you think you're doing!

Are you interfering with police business?

Yes!  I'm not going to let you hurt that kid!

[And then there is the sound of a short struggle followed by a single gunshot.]
schrodingersghost: (so bored)
[One day into his Jazz enforced vacation, and Danny was already going crazy with boredom.  He reaches out for his communicator and fiddles with it for a moment.]

Someone, entertain me.  Please.  I think I'm going crazy here

[He rolls his eyes, and then freezes as his gaze passes over two objects lying in the corner of the room.]

Wait, is that...  How did those get here?

schrodingersghost: (no more)
J-jazz?  Sam?  Can anyone-

[Danny cuts off his sentence with a hiss and there is silence for  a few seconds.  At last he speaks up again in a strained voice.]

I-

I don't think I can make it back to the apartment.
schrodingersghost: (LOL)
[Danny had at long last decided to take the advice of... pretty much everyone who knew his secret and decided to take a night off to relax.  And what does a ghost boy do for stress relief? He inflicts his sense of humor on everyone he can catch.]

Ice day, isn't it?  Everyone out of the doldrums?  I suppose even a no-wind situation can occasionally give us a break.  Who'd have thawed it?
schrodingersghost: (secrets)
[Danny is looking rather panicked today.  Not to mention more than a little freaked.  But what else do you expect when an old woman he's never met before suddenly calls him 'ghost boy'.  And a lot of other gibberish.  But the ghost boy part is kind of sticking out.]

She knows! Somebody knows!  And she won't say how she found out!
